VENTUS is a wind orchestra in Singapore, run by Ventus Music Ltd, a non-profit. Our players are music educators, professional musicians and advanced players, and we care a lot about passing our love of music on to younger musicians.

Three world premieres of new Singapore wind band music by Germaine Goh, Syafiqah Adha and Zaidi Ramli, written with school bands in mind. We also play seven pieces that secondary schools are preparing for SYF, with student musicians from those schools on stage alongside VENTUS. Conducted by Adrian Chiang.

About us

A Singapore wind band that feels like family

Many of us have played together for more than ten years. Some of our members were once students of our Music Director, Adrian Chiang, and now teach bands of their own. Others are full time musicians, and some play purely for the joy of it after a day at work.

What keeps us together is simple. We practise on our own before rehearsal, we look out for each other, and we like to give younger players a warm place to grow. Every VENTUS musician also mentors and performs alongside the student ensembles of Band Academy Singapore.

Join a wind band in Singapore: auditions

We are always looking for woodwind, brass and percussion players who enjoy serious music making and want to be part of a friendly, close group. You don't need to be a professional. You do need to be reliable, come prepared, and be happy to help younger musicians along.

Who we are looking for

  • Woodwind, brass, percussion and double bass players
  • Aged 18 and above
  • Playing at Grade 8 standard or equivalent
  • Committed to rehearsals and concerts
  • Happy to mentor and perform with Band Academy Singapore students

How the audition works

  1. Round 1: Video audition

    Fill in our audition form with your details and upload a video of yourself playing a piece of your choice (up to 5 minutes). You can apply any time of the year.

  2. Round 2: Live audition

    If your video goes well, we'll invite you to play live for our section leaders, with a few scales and a short sight reading.

  3. Welcome to VENTUS

    If it's a good fit, we'll welcome you to rehearsals and share everything you need to know.

Common questions

Is there a membership fee?

No, there's no fee. In return, every VENTUS member helps to mentor and perform with the student ensembles at Band Academy Singapore.

Do I need my own instrument?

Yes, please bring your own instrument. Percussion instruments are provided.

When are auditions held?

All year round. Just fill in the audition form and we'll get back to you.
